D.I.Y - Christmas Wall Decorations

Hey guys, I'm back with more to share for our Christmas Countdown series! Today I'll be sharing DIY wall decorations for Christmas! The reason I chose to decorate on the walls is because I have limited floor space in my house. I didn't want to buy the miniature size Christmas trees as I want mine to be big and visible when people visit my house for Christmas. Therefore, my Christmas tree have to go on the wall too! I know, it sounds totally crazy. But what's Christmas without a Christmas tree, am I right? And I am going to teach you how. Trust me, this Christmas tree is so easy to make! Click on the jump to learn how!

I am super thankful that nowadays we've got Daiso (Japanese Store that sells all their stuffs at SGD$2 each) to purchase cheap Christmas Decorations. Some of the Decorations you are going to see are what I purchased from 2 years ago and have been re-using it for 3 Christmas already! That's a lot of money that I've saved on Christmas Decorations. Plus, I can make my decorations look different every year!

First up, I'm going to show you the things that I've used to create my 'Christmas Tree'.

I used 4 green sparkly Tinsel (you will need more for a bigger tree), to keep my tree simple, I used only a couple of the blue ornament balls (you may add other kinds of ornaments of your personal preference), a sparkly golden art string and a sparkly silver art string.

Blue-Tack to secure the 'Christmas Tree' on the wall, Scissors, Double-sided tape.

Now you've everything ready, time to let your creative juices flow and begin decorating!

Step 1: Take one end of your Sparkly Green Tinsel and place a blue-tack or double sided tape on it. Then tack or tape it against the wall like below:

Step 2: Once you've done with securing one end of the Tinsel, you want to start to secure another three side of the tinsel to form a triangle which will meet at the top point where the end of the tinsel is secured at. Like the picture below:

Step 3: Continue wrapping the tinsel around the first mini triangle. securing every corners with a blue-tack or double sided tape until you've achieved the desired size of the triangle you want as the highest point for your tree. Add in another tinsel if required.

Step 4: Keep repeating the same steps but form trapezium shapes instead of a triangle shape for the below layers, making the edges look more similar to an actual Christmas tree.

Step 5: Decide on the layers you want on your Christmas tree. Preferable 3 or 5 layer maximum. You can choose to use some of the tinsel as the tree bark but I did not do a tree bark for mine as I will be decorating the bottom with 'presents'.

Step 6: Decorate your tree with ornaments and presents. To place ornaments, simply blue-tack or double side tape it onto the ends or whatever you like, on the tree. Do not hang it as the weight might pull the entire tree down. Make fake presents by wrapping fancy wrapping papers over cardboards and blue-tack or double side tap it to the bottom of the tree.

Step 7: Using any kind of golden art string, wrap it around a wire and tape it in. using the sturdiness of the wire, create a star-shape and secure it on the top of your tree. Otherwise, you can also purchase any Tree toppers at Daiso for just SGD$2.

I used some Art-Papers to cut out a Santa Claus and a Speech bubble saying: "Hohoho, Merry Xmas" to decorate the remaining spaces on the wall. Leave me a comment below if you want a tutorial on how to make a Santa Claus!

I have some remaining materials left so I went to decorate this empty wall in my bedroom...

I bought this Christmas LED Lights which is battery operated, that I love so much, at just $8.90. And I just have to put it up in my room! I got mine from Gmarket. They deliver super fast, within a week so you do not have to worry that you will receive it after Christmas if you buy them now. I'll link the site where I got mine here for your convenience. (Update: they increased the price which means it cost the same as the ones selling in IKEA now) IKEA is also selling a similar battery operated Christmas LED Lights at about $9.90.

And this is how the Christmas Tree in my room looks like!

I actually wanted to hang up a candy cane I bought from Daiso but it's too heavy to be stick on using blue-tack or double sided tape. So that explains the empty corner on my wall. I'll update with pictures once I'm done with decorating the rest of it. (Thou I think I might procrastinate and this might be the finish look already.. But we shall see how things goes!)
